The Young People Portrait Project

The Young People Portrait Project originated from a college Creativity Course. I had recently discovered my love for capturing theatrical headshots but was eager to cater further to the individuality around me. So I decided to host a Portrait Party… in my own 1 bedroom apartment.

It began with a targeted social media announcement: “Drop in for a free photographed shoot, dessert, and socializing.” At first, I worried no one would show. It was a week before finals and people’s schedules were almost unbreakable but between knocks and messages, I was overwhelmed with friends and friends who brought friends, ready for community and creativity. Each person chose their own music to cater to their comfortability, and after two minutes in front of the camera, they each came alive.

By the end of the shoot, over 30 people came to indulge in chocolate chip cookies and chatting. I hope to host another Portrait Party in the near future.
